How to Clean your Glass Pipe

The more often you use your glass the more important it becomes to maintain them clean and free of gunk. The big question is: "What is the most effective way to clean your glass pipe?" Not only do dirty pieces smell bad, but they also look terrible for the true glass connoisseur. Tar and gunk take away from the true beauty of the glass and can have negative health consequences after repeated use.

After thorough research and extensive testing, we have come up with a few easy-to-follow steps that will lead to a brand new looking piece. Before getting into the steps, you must first gather a few necessary ingredients and materials.

What You'll Need

  • A sealable plastic bag
  • Paper clip
  • 99% Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
  • Table salt (sodium chloride) or Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate)
  • Dish soap

Now that you have exactly what you need, follow the steps below:

Step 1 - Place the Glass into the Plastic Bag and Soak in Alcohol

Carefully place the glass into the plastic bag and pour alcohol until the glass is fully submerged. If you do not have a plastic bag, any small sealable container will work.

Step 2 - Add a Teaspoon of Salt

Salt will act as a scrubber or sponge and will get into hard to reach places to fully clean the glass.

Step 3 - Let the Glass Soak

How you soak the glass depends on how dirty it was in the first place. 12 hours should be more than enough time to let the alcohol thoroughly dissolve the resin.

Step 4 - Shake the Bag

Shake! Shake! Shake! to loosen all residual resin. Only do this is you are using a sealable plastic bag.

Step 5 - Remove the Glass from the Bag and Wash

After soaking and shaking, remove your glass from the bag and wash with hot water and dish soap. You can clean any stubborn gunk off using pipe cleaners, paperclips or cotton swabs. Make sure to give a final rinse with hot water.

Step 6 - Let the Glass Dry

Give your glass ample tie to sit and dry. If your glass is not totally clean you can go ahead and repeat the previous steps while adding more salt.

Glass is designed to last a long time, so it is important to practice proper maintenance techniques. Keep your glass clean!
